Vote: Player of the Month - August
David Moyes’ men have made a solid start to 2013/14, but who’s been United’s key man in August? That’s your call; check out our three-man shortlist, watch the video above and cast your vote for Manchester United’s Player of the Month…
Robin van Persie The Dutchman bagged four goals in three games. His Wembley double secured the season’s first silverware, while his brace at Swansea was stunning. The first at the Liberty Stadium was an acrobatic volley with his so-called ‘chocolate leg’ and his second took in a slick touch before emphatically finding the top corner. He netted against Chelsea too – the side-netting. But it was about as close as United came. A good start.
Nemanja Vidic The Reds skipper missed the pre-season matches as he worked hard at the Aon Training Complex and he has hit the ground running with some typically towering defensive displays. After lifting the Community Shield at Wembley, he got stuck into Swansea in a physical battle in a sodden South Wales battle. In the clean sheet against Chelsea, Vida was again a pillar of strength.
Danny Welbeck Despite delivering outstanding team displays last term, Danny’s two-goal tally (one in the league) was frequently cited as a shortfall. Two goals at Swansea not only doubled last season’s haul in one game, his second - a beautiful lob over Michel Vorm - was a finish of brilliant vision and technique. If he carries on like that, the doubters will be well and truly silenced.
